Magical Quotes from Harry Potter that are Sadly Underrated

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

The Harry Potter books are filled with inspiring characters and wonderful quotes. Some magnificent quotes like 'The ones who love us never really leave us' and 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good' are talked about a lot, but there are many other inspiring quotes we probably missed while reading the books. Here are some forgotten quotes which hold a special place in my heart...

"I am what I am, an' I'm not ashamed"

- Rubeus Hagrid, Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire

Remember that part in Goblet of Fire, when Rita Skeeter wrote horrible things about Hagrid in the Daily Prophet? Hagrid was mortified at first, and decided not to teach at Hogwarts ever again. But then Harry, Ron, Hermione and Dumbledore pacified him, and Hagrid realized that Rita Skeeter's nasty articles should not deter him in any way and he was perfect as he was.

Hagrid is one of the most lovable characters in the series. Though he had a very troubled childhood, it did not affect his benevolence and kindness in any way.

There's so much we can learn from Hagrid (except smuggling illegal dragons into a wooden house, that is)

"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."

- Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix

I just love Ginny Weasley's character arc, and how she transformed from Ron's squealing, stuttering, blushing little sister who put her elbow in butter dishes to an amazing, kind and loyal friend, who defended Luna and Neville when no one else did, as well as a superb Chaser and a terrific Seeker.

Ginny had a very traumatizing experience at the young age of eleven. Remember the part in Deathly Hallows, when Harry and Ron were greatly affected by the Horcrux, even though they only wore it for short periods of time? Ginny was possessed by one for an entire year, and yet she fought back. After she was rescued from the Chamber, she had a choice. She could either completely shut herself up, or leave the entire incident behind her, and start afresh; learn from her mistakes. And that's exactly what she did, and became herself: the feisty, courageous Ginny Weasley we all adore.

"Now, if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed, before either of you come up with another brilliant idea to get us killed, or worse, expelled."

- Hermione Granger, Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone

Hermione Granger is one of the most popular Harry Potter characters, because she's very relatable to many people. I, for one, relate to the buck-toothed, nerdy, know-it-all with a high-pitched voice who gets all panicky at the drop of a hat. She, like many other wonderful characters, has many flaws, like her inability to grasp things that she doesn't believe true, and her blind faith and nagging nature.

Sure, she may have many flaws, but is really very kind and cares for everyone, She feels empathetic towards even the smallest of creatures like house elves, because she knows how it feels when you are treated as inferior. Her thirst for knowledge is another wonderful thing I admire in her. She may not always be open to new ideas, but is an ideal friend, one you can always count on to support and believe in you, no matter what.

“If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!”

- Ron Weasley, Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban

Yup, no matter what the movies might show, it was our favourite blue-eyed ginger who said this, not Hermione.

Ron Weasley is one of the most loyal characters in the series.

Imagine being overshadowed by six older brothers while at home, and the famous boy-who-lived while in school. Ron was a character who grew up with insecurities, yet stood by with Harry. Sure, he did leave Harry during the Triwizard Tournament and the Horcrux hunt, but always came back. We too would have felt horrible if we were in his place.

Ron was already 'The Chosen One's faithful sidekick' to others before the Triwizard Tournament, but Harry getting selected made it worse. The Horcrux affected Ron very horribly during Deathly Hallows, and then when Ron thought his family was in danger, it was the last straw.

But he came back. His friendship with Harry and Hermione was too strong, and Tom Riddle could not break it.

"There is all the difference in the world between being dragged into the arena to face a battle into the death and walking into the arena with your head held high."

- Harry Potter, Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince

Harry taught us that there are many causes worth dying for, but none worth killing for. Burdened with a great prophecy at such a young age, Harry taught us to find happiness in the smallest of things.

Harry didn't hesitate even for a second before walking into the Forbidden Forest to save his loved ones, didn't complain when he realized so much had been kept from him for such a long time, and didn't think twice before risking his life to save so many people, including people who ruined his life, like Pettigrew and Draco. Harry is wonderful person who taught us nobility, forgiveness, humility, and putting oneself before others.
